Our story

Jacob Moth began building the garden in Fredensborg in 1995. In 1999 he met Ecaterina, and from then on it became their shared work. Here is how it happened, in five chapters.

  1. 1984

    The inner journey begins

Jacob Moth was born in 1967. He was 17 when his inner journey began in 1984, with two questions: who am I, and why am I here? He calls it the Adventure of Self-Discovery. That same year he started working as a musician.

From 1985 to 1995 he trained in Mutual Therapy and experiential psychotherapy with Klaus Gormsen. From 1986 to 1994 he studied with Jørgen Lumbye, and he took courses with Stanislav Grof, among others.

  2. 1995

    The vision

In 1995 Jacob had a vision of how The Magic Garden and Axis Mundi Studio were to be built. He started that same year – by planting trees to match the drawings.

  3. 1998–1999

    Ecaterina

Ecaterina was born in Moldova in 1978. At 16 she was accepted at the music conservatory in Chișinău, and in 1998 she came to Denmark.

In 1999 the two of them met at a jam session in Helsingør, and in 2000 they married. Together they formed the band LilaRose.

“The joint venture of our life paths and deep love kick-started a cascade of creativity …”

  4. 1999–2017

    The building years

In 2008–2009 Jacob built the main building, Axis Mundi Studio, with the Roundhall inside it. From the air, its ground plan of 123.4 m² forms the shape of a key.

In 2017 – 22 years after the vision – all 22 tarot cards of the Major Arcana stood finished in the garden. That year Jacob spoke about the garden at the International Transpersonal Conference in Prague.

“Now the creation and manifestation of The Magic Garden really started to take off.”

  5. Today

    The garden today

Today Jacob and Ecaterina, as Axis Mundi Experience, play a full moon concert in the Roundhall each month – music you create together with them.

The retreats run from Friday afternoon through all of Saturday, with an integration evening on the Tuesday after. Through The Magic Garden Tribe, you can also take part online, wherever you live.

Jacob and Ecaterina have four children and grandchildren – and around the garden, a soul family that keeps on growing.

The whole story

Jacob has written the whole story himself, and both books are in English. Land of the Nocturnal Butterfly, with a foreword by Stanislav Grof, follows his inner journey from 1984 to 2000. The Magic Garden & the Adventure of Self-Discovery tells the story of the garden in 718 pages – for now as a PDF.
